Part 1 - January 2008
Explorer Yachts UK's Marlow Explorer 70E is currently under construction at the Marlow-owned Norsemen shipyard at Xiamen in Mainland China.
Three Major Moulds
Marlow choose to build very complex tooling that allows them to form the Explorer with a minimum number of pieces. The yacht is built primarily from three major moulds rather than the standard 40-50 moulds most yacht companies use. Marlow feel with fewer seams these yachts will remain tight and leak free for decades to come.
High accolades
Marlow Explorer Yachts are certified by ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), Lloyds Register, and ISO 9001, a status enjoyed by less than a handful of pleasure powerboat manufacturers worldwide and they are the first manufacturing in China to receive this level of certification. Not only that, but in 2007 the Marlow Explorer 70E has itself won the prestigious World Yachts Trophy Award, in the category of Most Functional Design. More recently, Marlow Yachts Ltd has been certified under the NMMA (National Marine Manufacturers Association) Certification Program. The NMMA Certified label on a Marlow Yacht lets you know it was built to meet and often exceed, strict quality and safety standards established by the U.S. Coast Guard and the American Boat & Yacht Council.
Ocean Class
The 70E will also arrive with the highest available CE certification by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance for Category A (Ocean). CE certification is a quality and seaworthiness assurance program that employs increasingly higher specifications for certification to a given rating. The definition of category A is:
“A. Ocean: Designed for extended voyages where conditions may exceed wind force 8 (Beaufort scale) and significant wave heights of 4 meters (13+ feet) and above but excluding abnormal conditions, and vessel largely self-sufficient.”
Spacious Design
The need for interior bulkheads has been eliminated in the Marlow Explorer by its superior architecture and Marlow's unique build process. This creates a hull that is so well engineered that the non-strucutral bulkheads can be positioned at will, resulting in a vessel with a great feeling of space and providing the opportunity to customise the layout to the needs of any prospective owner.
Environmentally Responsible
From the day the first shovel of dirt was turned, the protection of the pristine environment in which the Norsemen Shipyard facility is located was uppermost. Marlow is proud to be a pioneer in responsible manufacturing on a global basis and even prouder to have been awarded the coveted World Superyachts Award for their environmental policies. They have held firm to their commitment to protect the natural systems upon which all life depends while lifting people out of poverty and advancing economic development. This mission, Marlow believes, is among the greatest challenges confronting humanity and the policies and practices we adopt today will shape not only our lives, but also those of future generations. Marlow Yachts is currently under testing and type approval for the prestigious ISO14001 category certification to augment and certify its commitment to quality manufacturing in and environmentally respectful manner. ISO14001 certifies that the manufacturer has implemented full environmental controls on every segment of the manufacturing process from purchasing through receipt and final use of the products involved. ISO14001 further insures that the manufacturer has implemented a plan for proper disposal of non recyclable materials with proper storage and handling of byproducts intended for recycling. This lofty standard requires that the manufacturer design and place emergency procedures for full containment of accidental spills or discharges. |
